Invigilators

Invigilators:

Invigilators are often in charge of preserving order and discipline during exams and TCAs. Normally, each assessment room would have at least two invigilators assigned to it.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities prior to the commencement of the assessment

When entering the assessment room, invigilators should ensure that everything is in order in terms of desks, the availability of answer books, supplemental paper and string, and attendance slips. This is especially important if you have been assigned as a LEAD invigilator. Candidates may be admitted to the assessment room no earlier than 15 minutes before the advertised starting time once invigilators are satisfied that everything is in order. Invigilators should ensure that bags etc. are deposited alongside a wall, or at such other place as the invigilator(s) may determine. If anything appears unsatisfactory, the invigilator should report to the relevant program support office.

Responsibilities during the Assessment Period

The rules governing late arrivals and candidates leaving the room before the time allotted for finishing an Examination should be familiar to invigilators.
• Invigilators should be aware that a candidate should only leave the room during an examination under extremely rare circumstances, and the candidate should be escorted by an invigilator.
• If an invigilator believes a candidate is cheating, they should be informed of the rules.

Responsibilities immediately following the Assessment

The Lead Invigilator should inform the applicants of the time remaining fifteen minutes before the test is scheduled to end.
• The Lead Invigilator should direct candidates to stop writing and properly end the Exam when it is finished.
• Invigilators need to be informed of the laws governing students who receive disability support.
• Attendance slips and scripts must be collected by the invigilators.
Before candidates are allowed to leave the room, invigilators must verify that the number of attendance slips equals the number of exam scripts. If the Module Leader is not present at the test, invigilators must guarantee that the scripts are returned to the appropriate programme support office.
